Sam Hajj's Birthday, 2010 Mailbag

First and foremost, happy birthday to Sam Hajj!  You get a birthday and a Mailbag all at once.  Not many people are that lucky.  20 is a big age.  No longer a teenager.  Still, you'll never be older than me.  So suck it.

Now everyone else: find a way to contact Sam Hajj and congratulate him on his ability to age.

I had two questions that I meant to e-mail you this morning, but I forgot them. What were they?

- Mike

Actually, I believe you had two questions and a comment.  Let's start with the comment.  What you were going to say was "My dad (the king of crappy action moves) loved your movie pitch."  Well tell him thanks.  It means a lot to know that Mr. Weinhold would watch my movie.  There's probably no one else I'd rather watch a movie like that with.  If and when Crank 3 ever comes out on DVD, I'm coming to the Weinhold estate to view it.

Now, your first question was "Where do your loyalties lie for the Super Bowl?"  Good question because it's a tough one for me.  As far as Super Bowl's where I have no connection to either team (and we New Englanders have been lucky enough to not have too many of those) this might be the most even for me as far as potentially liking one team more than the other.  For New Orleans, they've got Shockey.  A win would give my favorite NFL player his second Super Bowl ring, but the first in which he actually played in the game.  So that would be cool to happen, and I will be wearing my Saints Shockey jersey during the game.

However, I've always been in the Peyton Manning is better than Tom Brady camp.  It's tough being one of those in New England.  So a Peyton victory would give him a 2nd Super Bowl ring, potentially a 2nd Super Bowl MVP, all in addition to his now record 4 NFL MVP awards.  For people who want to argue numbers rather than just "I've formed my opinion by watching them both play," then those numbers will provide a ton of ammunition for people in the Manning camp.  Also, I just really like him a lot and think we may never see a quarterback this talented again.

So here's the scenario I'm cheering for (however unlikely): Colts win in a shootout in which Shockey goes for like 200 yards and 3 touchdowns winning the MVP.  Hey, it could happen.

Your second question was "What are your thoughts on our fantasy basketball rivalry being renewed this week?"  (Yes I know it sounds like Jeff wrote that question but I don't care).  There is no doubt in my mind that the best fantasy sports rivalry I know of right now is TH-Mike fantasy basketball (DiZazzo-Salustro SMFBL would be the runner-up).  I thought that last year I broke down the whole rivalry but I can't seem to find it on here.  To sum it up for anyone interested, Mike and I are basically just way better than everyone else at fantasy basketball.  Not sure why, but it's true.  I've won 3 straight fantasy basketball championships.  2 out of those three times Mike was the Regular Season champion.  Whereas he has generally bested me in the regular season, I have clearly been fortunate enough to get the better of him in the post season.

This week Mike goes into the match up 13-0.  I am 11-2.  As it stands at the moment, Mike leads in a nail-biter 4-3-1.  Looking at the teams, I think you've got the better one.  However, for most of the first half of the season I was always pitting our teams against each other and we generally went back and forth between who would have won the week.  Recently, my team has slowed down quite a bit and that is bothering me.  I also don't have a team that scores a whole lot of points, and since that's the tiebreaker, I think it's the thing that will ultimately lead to the end of my title streak.

So you win this week (I'm having unfortunately timed injury issues - Devin Harris hasn't played this week, and now Michael Beasley is out for the weekend, hopefully not any longer).  I'll be able to hold Pat off for our division's playoff spot.  I will meet Kiel in the first round.  Hopefully I'll get past him so that we can promote another championship game between us.  In any case, I think you've got the winning team.  Still not as good as my team last year though.

What are the best TV shows to watch with a group?  What about alone?

- Craig

I think if we're going to speak generally, comedy's are best in a group.  Having a group around you laughing can make stuff you already think is funny even funny, and it can make you laugh at something you might not have laughed at alone.  A group will almost always increase the enjoyment level of a comedy.  If I'm going to pick an individual show, I'm picking It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.  It uses so many different comedic styles that it would be nearly impossible to have a small group of people unanimously dislike an episode.  One episode that may not be in your taste will likely be something that someone else likes, and their enjoyment of it will add to yours.

What's best to watch alone is a more difficult question.  Porn?  Bad reality shows that you don't want others to know you watch?  I mean, we could go to the other end of the spectrum from comedy's and say dramas, but I'm not sure it's true.  Sure, it's nice to have no one bothering you when you're watching LOST for instance, but it's also nice to have others to discuss what the fuck is going on sometimes, so I don't think we can put dramas here.  I'll go with the bad reality shows.  Anything on MTV.

I had a decent amount of videos to choose from this week to leave you with.  Over the course of the day I was slowly narrowing it down, but then something happened.  As it turns out, ABC had a LOST sweepstakes where 815 people got a "message in a bottle."  There were two things in the bottle: a note saying "nothing is irreversible," and a USB flash card.  The flash card contained the first 4 minutes of the season premiere.  Obviously, ABC knew these would be posted to the internet, and as such have no problem with it all over YouTube right now.

Thus, what you find below is the first four minutes of the season premiere of LOST.  If you want to wait until Tuesday night, then feel free to skip it.  But, if you have even the vaguest idea what is happening this season on LOST, there is nothing major spoiled in the clip, and in fact it's mostly a waste of time.  However, if you know nothing and want to keep it that way, don't watch it.  It's only about 2 minutes of new footage anyway, as the first 2 minutes of the premiere are the last 2 minutes of last season's finale.
